Liege, Bridge or gateway Mativa Hennebique

...
a friend wanted to know a little more about the origin of the bridge Mativa in Liege, still visible today in Saint-Lambert ...

here are some details about this project to Universal and International Exhibition of 1905 in Liege.

Gateway Mativa Hennebique or bridge, named after the French architect who created it, it's actually a great premiere in Liege, at the time, and a very modern bridge!

Indeed, this gentleman Hennebique Francis's name is nothing less than the inventor of reinforced concrete, he made the first concrete building in 1892 in Paris where he set up his business.

pity that there is a street light in front, otherwise you might have read the entire sign ...
be seen even when the creator's name and it says it uses the compression of soils.

therefore, earns this bridge-like thin and light between the two sides of the bypass between the platform and Mativa Saint-Lambert. Construction decided in 1904, will be completed in 1905 by the Foundation Company Limited, for a total cost of 100,000 francs

On the bridge, visiting German officers ... it captures well the shape of the bridge,
rails are visible, to allow movement of the train expo, finally, the Decauville propelled, which I find much more detailed photos with the few I have!
can be seen in the background, the Palace of French Food.

Staying a little on the subject of these railcars Decauville operating at oil, of which here are two pictures.
The first, taken in Saint-Lambert, with the flag on the left and right of Canada, one of Bulgaria:

The second picture was taken on the Plaine des Vennes. The circuit was propelled to the entrance of the Jardin d'Acclimation, at the end of Saint-Lambert, to the Great Exhibition Halls, with Vennes.

Palace of Fine Arts at the Universal and International Exhibition of Liege 1905 ...

... this museum today!

I have spoken on several occasions, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, this museum, located in Saint-Lambert in Liège is none other than the Palace of Fine Arts was built to the occasion of Expo 1905.

Here are some current pictures ... slightly diverted in order to evoke its history!

And below a photo of the Palace of Fine Arts, during the Exhibition of 1905:

BIE Project - Film n ° 7 - Expo '92 - Seville Expo 1992 - Modeling

...
last long ... flags for the last 3 Avenue de l'Europe Expo '92 in Seville.

It starts with the flag of Portugal:

Plot Area: 3884 sq
total building area: 4981 m²
Maximum Height: 27 meters.

The plot in Portugal is at an angle at the junction of Route Discovery and the Avenue of Europe, and Portugal agreed to deliberately lie at the intersection of these roads. Pioneer of modern times, discovering new worlds or, today, a member of the European Community, which of these guidelines it should give priority?
In architectural terms, the provision pavilion features the dynamism and pride of a high curved wall, crashed through a diagonal, a "short cut", which symbolizes in history, what happened in the fifteenth century.

The general form is presented with an apparent simplicity, using an urban strategy. This is a place recognizable and bearing a name, a vast gathering place in the heart of the bustle of the Expo, in the shade with a fine mesh timber and iron in the middle of freshness created by numerous lakes and fountains.

Another low building borders the site, such a tangent on a secondary axis, crystallized around the strength of radiation from a large central volume, high and curved. This is the bar restaurant that stands on the podium based on a seat, next to two other main buildings placed at an angle approximating the ellipse with all the strength that it gives off.

The flag of Portugal, today.

Here is his version polygons, for the film:

Originality flag where the country name is written using object-letters.

We now turn to the opposite side of the Avenue of Europe, with two pavilions treated simply as cons in-fields in the film. They will be seen only partially, and very distant.

First, the Flag of the United Kingdom :

Plot surface: 6193 m²
total building area: 6454 m²
Maximum Height: 27 meters

The pavilion was designed as a structure-sensitive environment, containing a space that evokes a cathedral immebnse. The morning sun has just hit a wall of glass suspended 18 meters high, constantly cooled by a strip of water that flows into a basin along the building over its entire length.

On the roof, huge slabs form a platform on which are installed solar panels. The electricity generated powers the water pumps to the front.
The western facade is composed of stacked containers and filled with water so as to provide sufficient mass to absorb the extreme heat of midday. The north and south facades are covered with curved blades, 25 meters high, constructed of large masts that support canvas panels. Panels, additional umbrellas protect the south facade.

Interior the pavilion is designed as an oasis cool and calm, protected from the burning sun of Seville.

This modeling, which ultimately is too detailed in relation to the need ... but when one loves, one does not count!

Moving to the last, the flag of Germany :

Plot surface: 6193 m²
Total building area: 9216 m²
Maximum height: 54.4 meters

The flag of Germany is a temporary building, the choice of materials and construction methods have been used, depending on its use and budget requirements. The roof was designed to also cast its shadow in the area to fresh air. Its structure consists of a large elliptical ring, suspended by cables to a mast that angled through it. Other guys anchor it firmly to the ground.

Pavilion has a crosslinked structure, which relies on steel frames, this frame very rigid literally envelops the building on three sides and its interior houses in various facilities. This "wall art" is almost invisible from the outside.

The ground floor and first floor exhibition space, with a steel frame and very light soils in trapezoidal plates.

The facade overlooking the courtyard consists of orthogonal lattice of steel cables placed diagonally, which support inside the polycarbonate sheets.

the third floor is the panoramic restaurant, the area reserved for VIPs and the offices of Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner "flag".
The building is fully air conditioned.

In turn the 3D model ... this time, very simple ... but only for lack of documentation ;-)

Now the big project has been modeled, but it remains among all urban development to be constructed, which allowed pergolas to queue ... in the shade, and vegetation.
Next came the textures of course! and visitors ...

and I forgot ... the gondola of Expo '92, which passes over the road to the Discoveries, between Avenue of Europe and the flag of Spain!

Universal and International Exhibition of Liege 1905 - Draft 3d

...
It's been a month since I work in parallel on this project, which began in earnest the week Last, for his achievement in computer graphics 3d.

It is time to speak and to present this project on the Universal and International Exhibition of Liege in 1905.
is a first draft, which does not propose to restore this show in its entirety but only interested in a game, in relation to the place where this film will be presented.

Indeed, Expos & Expo, the exhibition of the International Exhibitions Bureau will be in Liège from June, as part of promoting the candidacy of the city of Liege in organizing an Exhibition International in 2017.

He therefore seemed interesting in the context of cross-promotion to include a little reminder when to previous exhibitions of the city of Liege, 1905, 1930 and 1939.
Ideally, it would have been interesting to make a film retrospective of these 3 events in the history of this fabulous city, however, 3D, and in the short time I have left, it is not possible to produce a film synthesized images on each of these exposures.

So I decided to devote myself only to that of 1905, I know myself better and to achieve this 3d trailer with such a short time. I just hope this will be the premise for future more ambitious project.

Exposure IBE will take place in a remnant of the Exposition of 1905, the Palace of Fine Arts which is located in Saint-Lambert, now MAMAC Liege, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. It was only natural that he be present in the film as a link with some other flags of Saint-Lambert.

For now, the magnitude and duration of this project are not yet set. Realistically, I envisage the reconstruction of a dozen small houses, for a film with a duration of 4 6 minutes ... duration function also video editing, not including references or photographs of the era.

But above all, here is a presentation of the Universal and International Exhibition of Liege, 1905, beginning the history of immersion in this project :

This exhibition was organized to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the independence of Belgium.

Opened April 27, 1905, it will close its doors November 6, while the official closing was scheduled for November 1, She received 7 million visitors.

The exhibition covered an area of 70ha at several sites Liège:
- La Plaine des Vennes at the confluence of the Ourthe and Meuse, which was among others, the entrances and the Great Halls.
- The Plain Fragnée, with its many attractions: Panorama Liégeoises Arena, Maxim Airplanes, etc..
- Annex Cointe, Plaine des Sports where were the gardens and Palace of Horticulture.
- The Zoological Gardens and the Place Saint-Lambert, which was the Palace of Fine Arts, now the MAMAC Liège (Museum of Modern Art and Art Contemporary). So what
Park Boverie I chose to return part in this first project on 3d Expo 1905.

In 1895 Victor and Florent Pholien Dumoulin, Circle Private Trade Liege propose a project of World Expo in Liege. The value of such a project will be confirmed by the Brussels Exhibition in 1897 which will be recorded in the Walloon product excellence.

This same year 1897 will see the signature of a first record in the private circle of Commerce of Liege and the support of the press as a whole. The
filing a technical report and the final choice of the location of the exhibition takes place in January 1899. On July 15, 1899 the Company will consist anonymous Liege Exhibition.

The July 21, 1903, Prince Albert laid the foundation stone of the Palais des Expositions (photo below).
